Ten minutes is enough

Decluttering fails when it is scheduled as an event. Set a timer for ten minutes, choose one drawer or one shelf, and stop when the timer sounds. Momentum is the goal, not completion. Small, consistent sessions are far more sustainable than waiting for an entire free weekend that never seems to come. Over time, those ten-minute resets add up to an organized home without the overwhelm. The key is building the habit, once you start seeing progress, staying motivated becomes much easier.

The three-box rule

Keep, donate, relocate. That is the entire system. A fourth box marked "undecided" quietly becomes clutter with a nicer name. Every item should have a clear destination, which keeps decisions simple and prevents unnecessary second-guessing. If you're struggling to decide, ask yourself whether you'd buy the item again today or if you've used it in the past year. Keeping your decision-making process straightforward helps you finish projects faster and keeps clutter from creeping back into your home.
