Designate desktop zones

Treat the desktop like a small city: one corner for the laptop, one for a notebook, and pen, one for a personal touch like a plant or candle. When every item has a zone, the desk resets itself in seconds.

Keep only what you use daily within arm's reach. Everything else belongs in a drawer or on a shelf.

Edit shelves like a gallery

Floating shelves look best with breathing room. Stack books in small groups, add one woven basket for odds and ends, and finish with a single trailing plant or framed print.

If the shelf is also storage, use lidded boxes or magazine files in one consistent material so the eye reads it as calm rather than cluttered.

Tame paper and cables

A simple two-folder system — action and archive — keeps paper from piling. Scan anything you can, and schedule ten minutes a week to clear the action folder.

Route cables behind the desk with adhesive clips and label each cord at the plug. A clean cable situation instantly makes a workspace feel more expensive.
